So the spouse is getting a Yukon. Her Pathfinder is being passed down to one of our kids, although he doesn’t have his license yet (but should within the next month or two) . Since I work from home now, I really don’t need two cars that sit around, plus the Pathfinder, so one of mine needs to go:

Kinja'd!!!

I’ve gone back and forth as to which one goes. I love the Jag, but I don’t like driving it to places where I’m not sure what the parking situation is (I hate door dings!) , I don’t like driving it in rain just because of how many idiots are on the road, etc. So the Mustang has been my bad weather/do everything car, plus I just love driving it. But even though it’s a Roush, it’s pretty easy to replace and the XFR-S isn’t, so I decided to keep the Jag. Then I thought “well, that’s exactly why I drive the Mustang and don’t drive the Jag, so now I’m going to drive the Jag to all those places and in bad weather even though if something happens, it can’t be replaced ?” So I was leaning toward keeping the Mustang. But then I thought “the damn car is made to be driven” — so I’m keeping the Jag and selling the RS3. And now I come to my fellow Oppos for confirmation — please tell me I made the right choice!

Keep the Jag, drive the Yukon to places you worry about. If that’s not possible, start parking defensibly. I drive my car to a train station parking deck every day but I make sure to park in spots I know will have enough space for even the most oblivious driver exiting their car.

Seriously though, keep the Jag.

I’m assuming resale value doesn’t matter to you since three of the cars mentioned cost more than $50k?

Not sure what the resale on the Jag is at this point - I bought it when it was 2 years old so the first owner took the most significant  depreciation hit . The Mustang is nowhere close to $50 (it was only $51 new).

I park defensively whenever possible even in the Mustang.  Sometimes there’s just not a good choice, though.

I got stuck with a Prius as a rental once. Actually was surprised that I didn’t completely hate driving it, although I was happy to turn it in at the end of the week.

Eh, it’s a toss-up. For me, personally, I’d take the Mustang. I love both of those and the the Jag is awesome, don’t get me wrong, but the Jag is also the one down the road that is more likely to cost you an arm and a leg in repairs (then again, you probably have the money to deal with that....I drive a Hyundai Accent, so I am coming from that mentality :P) and is the one that is harder to find parts for and probably get paint touch-ups, etc done to if it were to get some dings from driving it more often.

Then again, the Jag is more practical...and I like the color on it a LOT. I don’t envy your decision friend! The Jag is definitely rarer though I imagine...you’d probably get a lot of love from fellow petrolheads if you did choose to DD it year-round!

Same, but I do a few things to help mitigate;

Does it look like a single driver type car? Back in closer to the passengers side door. leaving more room on the other side for the driver next to you.

Never back in between two backed in cars unless there is room on either side, always pull into the spot and angle your car so the drivers side of the car next to you has more space.

Is it a minivan? Then stay clear an keep looking.

Doing stuff like that as actually worked out pretty well for me.

Definitely not helping. A friend just got a GT350 -- he didn’t get the R because we are in Texas and air con is a must if you ever want to drive it anywhere other than the track. It’s a fun car to drive, for sure.

100% back your thinking. The XFR-S is special. The Mustang is still a Mustang. Sadly, the depreciation curve probably favors the Mustang. But f-it. This is Oppo.

I also started working from home a couple months ago.

Earlier this year I moved from Wisconsin to DC. Even though I’m in one part of the burbs and my job was in another part of the burbs 15 miles away, it was easily a 60 minute drive home, with a lot of stop & go on the beltway. In my modded, lowered, stick shift 335xi that I had gotten when I still lived in Madison and had a super easy commute, this was far from ideal. I was getting t o the point that I was considering nice practical automatic transmission commuter cars that were still kinda fun, like, say, a Hyundai Elantra GT Sport with the turbo motor and DCT.

But since I work from home now, I mostly pootle around my little corner of the burbs and I totally am fine with my impractical car once again.

How often are you really parking places where you think your car will get fucked up? Seems like this parking anxiety is too much of a factor in the decision. Which one do you like driving around your usual spots?

A dude that lives...i dunno within a couple of miles of me, bought one of those Jags in that color when it came out. Occasionally, i’ll see it by my house and it makes me smile every single time.

For the record, i don’t really like Jaguars that much and I generally find bright blue cars sort of obnoxious. But the XFR-S is   a “more than the sum of its parts” car in my mind. I may not like those things in isolation, but put them together and they’re something I love.

I was never a Jag guy . But I actually found the car via an Oppo post, went to look at it, drove it, fell in love, and bought it a week later. It really is a great car. I’m sure as soon as I get rid of the Mustang, though, it will start doing British things and break every week!

It probably should be, but the Roush upgrades make the Mustang a ton of fun to drive and track. In fact, the dealer dinged me a bit on its offer because it needs new tires ... again.

Oh I’m sure it is, I’ve owned a black Mustang as well that was quite a lot of fun, but just look at that XFR-S!  It’s gorgeous.  Can’t say the same of the Mustang, at least in my eyes :).
